Netball Metro Vancouver has adopted and adheres to the principles of social media policy of the BC Netball Association

1.1 Privacy Statement

The British Columbia Netball Association is committed to protecting the privacy of its registered membership. Any personal information provided to BC Netball is collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).

The British Columbia Netball Association is obligated to gather specific personal information from registering members, such as name, gender, date of birth and postal code. This information is required for Insurance Records, and by the BC Sport Agency for funding applications. Other information such as address, telephone number and email is only obtained if the member supplies it voluntarily.

Any personal information BC Netball ask its membership to provide is collected under the authority of the FOIPPA. The information will only be used for the purpose of administering BC Netball services, informing members of training and competition opportunities and for statistical purposes. When the information is transmitted over the Internet, it is encrypted to protect against unauthorized access. The information will be stored in a secure location and will not be disclosed to third parties without the individual member’s permission, except as required by law.

The online conduct of United Netball members should be dictated by the following principles:

Be Respectful

Refrain from posting spam, defamatory, or discriminatory comments. Refrain from using expletives. Remain polite and

professional at all times.

Be Honest

Refrain from making untruthful statements or spreading rumours. If you are unsure about certain information, verify it

before posting on social media.

Do:

  • Be respectful and honest
  • Promote the sport of netball
  • Recognize sponsors whenever possible
  • Recognize athletes, coaches, managers, and volunteers
  • Adopt a neutral, unbiased tone for events or competitions between teams from within Netball Metro Vancouver .
  • Show sportsmanship and friendly competitiveness for events or competitions involving teams from outside of BC
  • Obtain approval from the Netball Metro Vancouver Board of Directors before endorsing third-party events on social media
  • Respect all copyright laws
  • Always credit sources with citations or links
  • Reserve any personal opinions for your own personal social media handles that are not affiliated with Netball Metro Vancouver and do not claim to speak on behalf of Netball Metro Vancouver Board of Directors
  • Consult the Netball Metro Vancouver Board of Directors with any questions or to know how to handle a given situation
Do not:
 
  • Engage in arguments with the public or other organizations on social media
  • Post content for which Netball Metro Vancouver does not have consent to use on social media
  • Post content that promotes illegal drug use, profanity, nudity, or illegal activities
  • Share sensitive information about sport organizations, colleagues, players, managers, coaches, or the Netball Metro Vancouver and BC Netball Associations online
  • Create social media accounts for Netball Metro Vancouver without the prior consent of the Board of Directors of Netball Metro Vancouver

Netball Metro Vancouver has exclusive ownership of the official social media accounts for the Netball Metro Vancouver
Association. All pictures and videos posted by social media accounts of the Association are the property of Netball Metro
Vancouver and may not be reproduced in any shape or form for commercial purposes unless prior approval from the
board of directors of BC Netball Association is obtained.
NB (social media sites eg Facebook technically own whatever photos/vids you post on them, this will conflict with their
“user agreements”)

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
